Dulwich Hamlet sign former Charlton Athletic midfielder

Dulwich Hamlet have signed former Charlton Athletic midfielder Johl Powell.

The 21-year-old midfielder had been without a club since he was released by the Addicks in the summer.

“Johl has been training with a couple of National League clubs but couldn’t find the right place for him at that stage,” said Dulwich manager Paul Barnes.

“He is an energetic, box-to-box central-midfield player.”

Dulwich have also signed goalkeeper Aaron Jones to replace Joe Osaghae, who had his contract terminated.

The 18-year-old will act as back-up to first choice Charlie Grainger.

Dulwich’s National League South fixture at Taunton Town on Tuesday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Hamlet also played the Somerset-based club on Saturday, losing 2-1 in the FA Trophy. Barnes only named four substitutes instead of seven.

“I could put out an 11 of injured players,” he said. “It’s crazy. Our hands were tied – we couldn’t have made any subs.

“The 11 who started knew they’d be the 11 who finish, unless something went horribly wrong. We gave away two soft goals and didn’t take our chances.

“We were looking forward to putting that right on Tuesday night but we’ll have to save it for another day.”
