EFL: Charlton Athletic have three individuals fail owners’ and directors’ test
The EFL have issued a statement today revealing that East Street Investments have had three individuals fail their owners’ and directors’ test.
ESI had been looking to gain approval and stated recently that paperwork had been submitted to the governing body.
Paul Elliott was announced as the new owner of ESI on June 10. But even the original incarnation of ESI – which had Tahnoon Nimer as the main man bankrolling their purchase of the Championship side – had not been able to get EFL approval.
The South London Press has also been told that Charlton’s moves for Milton Keynes midfielder Alex Gilbey and Hearts striker Conor Washington have not be sanctioned by the EFL.
The two players had passed medicals and were ready to rubber stamp their moves to SE7.
The EFL statement said: “At its meeting earlier this week, the EFL board was asked to consider Owners’ and Directors’ Test (OADT) applications lodged by Charlton Athletic in respect of a number of different individuals.
“Following a full and comprehensive appraisal of all the relevant matters the board determined that three individuals were subject to a disqualifying condition and the EFL declined to approve their applications. Those individuals have 14 days to appeal the decision.
“The EFL continues to consider applications from other individuals under the OADT.”

Well, that is an enormous surprise to us all isn’t it. I would urge the present incumbents to go away and cut their losses, if there are any, and let those who have a genuine affiliation to CAFC take over and move the club forward before it is too late. It is and has been for a long time now, a complete shambles created by persons who do not care an iota for all those connected with the club. The reasons why they ‘bought’ the club are probably best left for them to know and for us to forget. Please sell to Varney and Barclay so they can sort it out with the lovely RD.
