Ex-Wimbledon midfielder joins National League side after League Two release

Former Wimbledon midfielder George Francomb has joined National League side Dorking Wanderers.

Francombe was released from his Crawley Town contract by mutual consent on deadline day.

The 31-year-old spent six seasons at Wimbledon, making 221 appearances in all competitions, scoring 13 goals, and picking up 29 assists.

Dorking are 19th in their first season in the National League.

Wanderers boss Marc White said: ‘For the club, this is typical of the type of signing we would always look to attract post-promotion – we look to add players to the existing group who are better than the league we are in.

“Having been promoted in tantamount in June last year, we had really limited ability to do so. The signing of George signifies the re-building we are renowned for.

‘George has played over 400 football league games – he is extremely experienced and can play in a number of positions defensively and in midfield.

“He is a leader, has captained a number of the sides he has played for and brings a vast level of experience with him. Best of all though – he is a really good guy who will fit into the culture and the mode of this club.

“The long-term deal we have given him really does staple our intentions for the next era of our project.”
