Exclusive: Charlton Athletic owner Roland Duchatelet blocks plans for striker signing

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet has refused to sanction a move for out-of-contract striker Joe Mason.

Addicks boss Lee Bowyer was looking to bring in the former Wolves and Cardiff City frontman, who became a free agent at the end of last month.

The Charlton chief was also considering ex-West Brom and Stoke City attacker Peter Odemwingie as a potential incoming deal, but Mason was top of their wishlist.

But Duchatelet is not prepared to sanction the deal, despite banking at least £1.5million from the sale of Karlan Grant to Huddersfield.

Bowyer told the South London Press: “He [Mason] is the one that we were looking to bring in.

“But I got a phonecall from Steve Gallen [head of recruitment] literally 10 minutes ago saying the owner said no, we can’t bring in another striker because we’ve got Lyle [Taylor], Josh [Parker] and Igor [Vetokele].”

Welcome to the surreal world of Duchatelet Bow!

If you didn’t realise before what has been going on for the last 4+ years at the club you are now seeing first hand for yourself what the Duchatalet regime has brought to the club!

The Belgian idiot doesn’t seem to realise that Igor is a ‘striker’ in name only – yes, he pops in the odd goal, but not on a regular enough basis to be able to rely upon him to deliver the goods necessary for even a play-off place…. which is what the club are now fighting for in effect as the top two clubs pull away.

What are his (Duchatelet) intentions. He won’t/can’t sell the club. He can’t sell the ground. All the players and staff leave at the end of the season. ???????

    This is a joke right?
We desperately need a forward to inject fresh blood into the squad and our moronic chairman is going to essentially do to us what the Allams are doing to Hull City
Thanks for the confidence monsieur duchatelet

Once again Duchatelet interferes with the running of the club and ruins our chances of promotion because he thinks he knows best after already admitting to the public that he does not. How long do we have to suffer this fool for? Brexit cannot come soon enough!
