Family and friends pay tribute to woman stabbed to death in Camberwell the early hours of New Year’s day

Friends and family have paid tribute to a 33-year-old woman stabbed to death hours after the turn of the year.

Mother-of-one Charlotte Huggins was found with knife wounds in John Ruskin Street in Camberwell at around 4.20am after police were called.

Paramedics fought to save her life but she was pronounced dead at 4.50am.

Her father posted on Facebook: “MY BEAUTIFUL daughter x princess always darling love you so much darling always and forever xx xx Daddyo xxx don’t you ever forget that ok Daddyo xxx”.

Leroy Huggins added: “Just can’t get my head around it. Until we meet again little Cuzzy love you”. Charlotte’s last Facebook post, minutes before midnight, was a message saying: “Wishing all a healthy, happy 2019 – Love, us.”

More than 250 friends posted in disbelief on Facebook after the news was confirmed by police.

Holly Middleton said: “RIP angel can’t believe this has happened why you such a lovely, bubbly, happy, beautiful girl with a pure soul u will be forever missed.”

Louisa Joyce said: “Always with a ready smile, a gentle, beautiful person inside and out, the world is a darker place without you. You deserved better. Rest in peace sweet Charlotte.”

Hayley Northcott added: “To think we were all out last night seeing in the new year together… im lost for words RIP char til we meet again.”

Juliet Adeloye said today: “Woke up thinking it is a dream I still can’t believe RIP”.

Lois Jacobs said: “My friend u were such a beautiful souls inside and out I can’t believe this has happened. You will be missed forever.”

Officers were called by the London Ambulance Service to a home in John Ruskin Street, at 4.20am on Tuesday, January 1 to a report of a stabbing.

Officers found a 33-year-old woman with stab injuries. Despite the efforts of paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene at 4.50am.

A post-mortem on Tuesday at Greenwich Mortuary gave cause of death as a single stab wound. Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, led by Detective Inspector Domenica Catino, are investigating.

At this stage, it is believed that the suspect was known to the victim. Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room on 020 8721 4622 or tweet police via @MetCC.

A 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. He was taken to a South London police station and was subsequently bailed to return on a date in mid-January.
