Former Millwall defender Danny Senda appointed Charlton’s joint assistant-manager

Danny Senda has landed a promotion after being named joint first-team assistant manager at Charlton Athletic.

Addicks boss Dean Holden opted to add the former Millwall defender to his senior set up and had a vacancy after Scott Marshall opted to join Ben Garner at Colchester United.

“I’ve been really impressed with what I’ve seen from Danny since I arrived at the club in December,” said Holden.

“I looked at a number of external candidates and I felt that Danny was the best person for this particular role.

“He’s an outstanding coach with an excellent knowledge of the game. The combination of Danny, working alongside Anthony Hayes, gives us a really good balance in our coaching staff. We all share an overarching vision but have different skillsets that complement each other.

“We’re already working hard on next season to create a working environment that gets the most out of every single member of both our playing staff and backroom team.”

Senda has worked his way through the ranks at the South London club, having spells in charge of the U18s and U21s, winning the London Senior Cup earlier this month.

He has also spent time at Brentford, Barnet and Leyton Orient after injury forced him to retire at the age of 31.

The 42-year-old said: “I’ve had some positive conversations with Dean. I think everyone’s seen the impact he’s had since coming to the football club. He’s been really quite clear with how he feels I can impact what he wants to achieve and the outcomes that he wants to get to.

“He’s made it very clear to me what my role will be within the first-team structure and I’m really excited to get going and get started with it.”
