Fox cub rescued from Croydon recycling bin by RSPCA
A playful fox cub was just a little too young to be cunning as it found itself trapped in a wheelie bin yelping for help.
The cub was found by a homeowner in Croydon who heard strange noises coming from a group of bins in front of her home.
She decided to take a closer look and found a tiny fox cub screaming in distress at the bottom of the recycling bin before calling the RSPCA for help.
RSPCA animal collection officer Mat Hawkins said: “This poor little chap was cowering amongst the discarded drinks cans and food containers at the bottom of the bin. He was making quite a noise. There’s a drop from the house’s front garden down to the bins, so we think he may have been playing in the garden, then slipped over the edge and fallen straight into the bin!
“As the sides of the bin were slippery and steep, there was no way he would have been able to get out on his own, so it’s lucky the householder spotted him when she did.
“I carefully tipped the bin sideways and was able to gently coax him out. Having given him a quick check, happily he seemed none-the-worse for his ordeal, so I was able to release him straight back into the wild nearby. Hopefully he is now reunited with his mother.
“Being so young, this fox cub could have gone downhill fast, so I’d like to thank the householder for her quick reactions. She found this little creature in the nick of time.”
