Fuming Dulwich boss Rose to ship players out after “highly embarrassing” FA Cup loss

Gavin Rose has blasted Dulwich Hamlet’s performance after they crashed out of the FA Cup – and will ship players out of the National League South club.

Hamlet lost 4-3 at Eastbourne Borough in the third preliminary round on Saturday and miss out on the £15,000 prize money if they had progressed.

Dulwich were 4-0 down at the break. Iffy Allen was sent off in the 38th minute, before three goals in the final 11 minutes put more of a flattering complexion on the tie.

“The first half was really bad,” said Hamlet boss Rose. “It meant a lot to both clubs in terms of finances but we played as if it was a pre-season game.

“The players haven’t left themselves much scope with me – it was highly embarrassing that we played in that fashion.

“We have made changes [to the squad] and we’ll just have to make more until we get it right. We won’t just sit back and watch players not give their all.
As a club we are not in the position to pay players who are not giving us their all.

“It’s not about the result. You can’t guarantee you are going to win every game. But I can’t stomach players not giving the right commitment.

“The positive for us was Kingsley Eshun, a young lad we have got in on loan from QPR.

He came on in the second half and had nothing to do with what went before that. The other 10 players out there were all the reason for such a poor first half.”

The other consequence of the FA Cup exit is that Dulwich lost a home game on October 20 – which has been filled by the short trip to Princes Park to face Dartford being re-arranged.

Hamlet face a bigger financial struggle as they continue to play away from Champion Hill.

They started groundsharing at Tooting & Mitcham’s KNK Stadium towards the end of last season.

Dulwich were due to play a Crystal Palace side, led by Roy Hodgson, last night with all proceeds going to the hosts.

They go to Hungerford Town tomorrow on Non League Day.

“That is a bit of a journey and we are on the road a lot this month,” said Rose. “The FA Cup loss means we have lost a home game as our opponents are still in it.

“Revenue-wise it will be quite tight for us.”
