Gang smashes up Sainsbury’s in Elephant and Castle after staff catch them stealing alcohol

A gang of men smashed the front windows and doors of a Sainsbury’s in Elephant and Castle after they were caught stealing alcohol.

Six men seen stashing booze in their clothes and when they were confronted by staff proceeded to throw objects at the windows and doors at the front of the shop smashing the windows.

The gang were caught on video on Wednesday evening which was then published by the Daily Mail.

 

A Met police statement said: ‘Staff had reported that six men had entered the store and began to conceal spirits in their clothes.

“When confronted by staff the men became hostile and threatening. When the group left one of them picked up a sign that was outside the store and damaged a window.

“Officers attended and four men aged 20, 21, 21, and 22 were arrested near the scene on suspicion of theft and criminal damage.”

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson told Mail Online “it’s a shame that these things are happening.”
