Green light for new Tube station

Designs for a new London Underground stop at Battersea power station have been approved.
It is to be designed by Grimshaw and Partners, architects of the Eden Project, London Bridge Station, Wimbledon’s No1 Court and the rail stations of Crossrail.
Wandsworth council’s planning committee voted unanimously to give the green light to its construction, enabling it to open to passengers in two years’ time and funded entirely by developers Battersea Power Station.
The new Northern Line station will open on to Battersea Park Road and has been created to serve the existing local communities as well as those working and living at the new developments in Nine Elms, where up to 20,000 homes are in the process of being built, as well as the new American Embassy.
It will be the first of two station entrances for this stop at Battersea, with a western entrance also planned at the southern end of the new high street that is being created within the power station site. A tunnel under Battersea Park Road will also link the new Tube station directly to Stewart’s Road.
Planning chairman Cllr Will Sweet said: “This is a momentous occasion in the ongoing story of Nine Elms. Bringing the Northern Line to Battersea has been a fundamental aim of the council for many years and a crucial part of the jigsaw that makes up the area’s regeneration. The new station building looks world class and will be a fitting welcome to Nine Elms.”

Not the most inspiring design!
Rather extravagant I think. What about the low paid locals living in the area? This seems to be aimed at the rich living in those new flats etc. Money not well spent.

The project is infact funded by the people living in the flats at Battersea Power Station . The owners of the flats Pay a Charge of around £400 a Year into a fund that allows the developmemt company to finance the project. So the owners of the flats Pay for the tube station and everyone in the Local area benefits. Very fair to everyone .
