Hairdresser’s collection inspired by mum’s battle with dementia

A hairdresser has created a hairdressing collection inspired by his mother’s battle with dementia.
Robert Kirby, who has two salons in Wimbledon and Balham, intends to raise awareness of the disease that commonly affects the elderly.
Mr Kirby’s creativity for hairdressing developed from a younger age when his mum worked as a tailor.
He said: “Even now she is still very stylish. She still likes getting up every morning to do her hair and making herself look good.
“I just want to do something today in honour of people with dementia.”
The Bernadette collection is a display of 1950s glamour, voluminous hair-dos and bold colours.
According to Alzheimer’s Society, an estimated 850,000 people in the UK suffer with dementia.
It is expected that by 2025, that number will rise to about one million.
