In-form Dons make light work of struggling Shelford in London and SE clash

Unbeaten Wimbledon lead the way in London & SE Division and made it four straight wins with a 62-6 thumping of bottom club Shelford on Saturday.

The hosts had an injury crisis but the Dons were in no mood to be merciful as they scored nine tries and conceded none.

Full-back Ben Hough started the scoring after eight minutes with his deft kick through and number eight Kane Alboni scored under the posts.  Centre Freddie Hopper took the first of his seven conversions.

Hopper successfully kicked Wimbledon’s only penalty of the match.

The second try was again Alboni after a line-out was stolen and prop Jordan Saunders took the ball to the line.  The third try came on 22 minutes following a retreating Shelford scrum, Alboni and Hopper once again.

Shelford, on a rare visit to the Wimbledon half, took points with their second penalty to make it 24-6 at the break.

The second half was all Wimbledon, with six more tries being scored.

Hooker Bradley Ugodulunwa squeezed under all the defenders to touch down near the posts.  This was after a driving maul of more than 30 metres.

The next came from Phil Chesters, who also got the final try in injury time.

Chris York plunged over and around the hour mark Wimbledon sent on their three bench players after Ugoduluwa had scored his second, an injury to Hopper meant that kicking duties were passed to outside half Will Taylor.

The eighth try came on 80 minutes from flanker Ted Lee.

The final Wimbledon try in injury time was a gem. A long kick through was chased by wing Kieran Morris, followed closely by Hopper- he passed to centre Toby White and finally to Chesters who touched down.

Wimbledon are at home to Civil Service 1863 on Saturday (3pm).
