“It was a bit of a cop-out by the ref” – Millwall boss adamant his side were denied penalty in Swansea defeat

Gary Rowett was left frustrated with the officials after Millwall were denied a stoppage time penalty against Swansea.
Marc Guehi appeared to bring the Lions defender down.
“We should have had a penalty in the 90th minute,” said Millwall boss Rowett. “It was a bit of a cop-out from the referee.
“I’ve seen it back, It’s the most blatant penalty you’re ever going to see. Whether the ball’s in play just before the first foul’s taken place, but he drags Shaun Hutchinson down for about 10 yards. So for me the right decision was a penalty.
“The ball comes in, there’s a lot of pulling going on. I don’t know who it was, but their player has grabbed Shaun Hutchinson, two arms around him and then as the ball is just about near Hutchy he’s literally wrestled him to the floor. But the referee said the ball hadn’t come in play before the incident
“Technically, I suppose if you want to be black and white that’s right. But if someone drags someone to the ground in the box, for me that has to be a penalty, or stop it before the ball comes into play.”
The Millwall boss was also unhappy with the actions of Swansea forward Andre Ayew. He clashed with Jake Cooper during the second half and his reaction prompted a furious one from the Millwall players
“I’ve watched it back. They felt it was a blatant elbow, when I’ve watched it back as he’s run across Coops, Coops’ arm comes out and he’s run into his arm. Whether Coops throws his arm or not, the fact is whatever contact is there wouldn’t make anyone fall to the floor and roll around screaming. I thought it was pretty embarrassing.”

Cabango of Swansea was crashed to the ground with forearms to the back in the first few minutes, inside the penalty area and looked like a definite penalty. A little while later a touch on the back of a Millwall defender was given as a four.
Greed Millwall could have been given a penalty later in the game … so it evened out.
Perhaps the ref was making up for missing the attack on Ayew!
Instead of among about the ref Rowett should be looking at his tactics. Millwall came to defend and sneak a goal, but why? When the team went a goal down and 2 -1 their play and attack was causing us all sorts of problems.
Lack of ambition not the ref cost Millwall the points.
