Jed Wallace reveals that opponents get FIFA rage as he has “Incredible Hulk” version of himself

BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Jed Wallace has revealed a serious addiction – but it is nothing for Millwall boss Neil Harris to worry about.
The winger is a huge fan of FIFA 18 and has already sunk plenty of cash into the console game to assemble a squad that can take on the best in Ultimate Team mode.
“I never play as Millwall – I’d get swallowed up online,” Wallace told the South London Press.
“I love Millwall but they are not good enough against these whizzkids from China and Americans who are on it all night.
“I’ve got a friend at EA Sports [the game’s developer] and he has dropped a special edition Jed Wallace – a 99 [rating] card – into my team. I’ve had a lot of hate messages about that.
“I’ll be losing 3-0 online and bring the Jed Wallace card on. It’s like he is on steroids – Incredible Hulk on the right wing. If I do get beaten then people find me on Twitter and say ‘haha – I beat you even though you have spent loads of money’. I can only compare it to when my dad gave me £2 as a kid and I wanted to get Pokemon cards.
“Now I’ve got a disposable income and I spent £20 or £30 a week on FIFA. I need to grow up, I’ve got kids coming.
“I have to wait until the dog is asleep – so he doesn’t chew a controller. If the missus is out then I’m straight on it – headset on, lights off and concentrating.
“There is more of a Call Of Duty school here which I can’t really get into. Me and Kingy [Tom King} are the FIFA ones.
“We have some very responsible adults – TC has got kids to feed – playing PS3 at 33. Those boys need to take a look at themselves!”
The real version of Wallace has been a fine piece of business by the Lions. They made his move from Wolves permanent in the summer after he had helped to get the South London out of League One as he spent the second half of last season on loan in SE16.
The 24-year-old has scored four Championship goals and assisted as many. His industry alongside a desire to put defenders on the back foot has made him one of their top performers.
Wallace is set for a first tomorrow – playing at Elland Road.
Leeds were overpowered at The Den in September and yet they hold the worst disciplinary record in the division with five red cards and 62 bookings.
“The probably owe us one because they didn’t do themselves justice at The Den,” said Wallace. “It was arguably our best peformance of the season.
“They are a massive football club and I’m looking forward to it. There is no better club to go there with than Millwall. We’re going to have a big following – I’m 100 per cent confident we’ll be more than up for the battle.
“Their manager won’t have been the first or last one to come to The Den this year and say they knew what to expect. But Arjen Robben has been running down the left wing and cutting in on his right foot for five years, whether you can stop it or not is a different story. You saw it last year against Premier League teams in the FA Cup, if the ball drops in midfield and you put it in behind the defence then it is indefensible, if you get the timing of the run right.
“We need to find the same energy and tempo we’ve had at The Den, because away from home it has not been good enough. We need to be a lot more professional and not give away ridiculous goals – like we did at Norwich. They scored from a set-piece 50 yards out. The way we set up, that is unforgiveable.”
Ending a wait for a first Championship success away in 2017-18 will only boost Millwall’sprospects of consolidating following promotion in May.
“If we finish above Sunderland and Hull – big clubs who have been in the Premier League the last five or six years – that is massive credit to the manager and the group of lads,” said Wallace.
“Especially when you consider we have a small squad and the challenge of being competitive at this level.  We want to improve our away form. We feel as a group we have let ourselves down a little bit. It’s not fair to the fans who travel all over the country.
“We’re not getting the rub of the green but also we need the intensity and being as hard to play against as we are at home.”
