Johnnie Jackson gets the credit for Charlton Athletic’s opening goal at Sunderland
Nigel Adkins has praised Johnnie Jackson for the corner routine which led to Charlton’s first goal at Sunderland last weekend.
The Addicks went ahead just past the half-hour mark when Josh Scowen sliced into the roof of his own net. But a plan – devised on the training ground by Addicks assistant manager Jackson – led to Ryan Inniss having a free header in the box.
“Great credit to Johnnie Jackson – that was one of Johnnie’s corners,” Charlton boss Adkins told the South London Press.
“When we talk about attention to detail, Lee [Johnson, Sunderland manager] was probably unhappy with the way that Jason Pearce, for example, manages to get a good block to allow Ryan Inniss to get his first header in on goal. At the end of the day they should defend it better.
“There is a lot of detail going in on the training ground and in the classroom. The players are taking it on board. All of us are working together as a team.
“We’ve got Jason Euell with the first team now. We’ve got the medical team and sports science team. They’ve all got a valuable role to play and my job as manager is to make sure they bring that collaboration needed to bring it all together.”
