Johnnie Jackson provides update on injuries to favoured front two Washington and Stockley

BY LOUIS MENDEZ

Johnnie Jackson has provided an update of the injuries suffered by his first-choice strikers.

Conor Washington and Jayden Stockley were both missing for today’s FA Cup tie with Premier League Norwich City at The Valley. Stockley has been absent since the turn of the year with a hip complaint whilst Washington was a surprise absentee against the Canaries.

“Conor has just been feeling his hamstring a little bit this week,” explained Jackson.

“The game came too soon. Hopefully, it’s not too serious and he’s available for Wednesday [away to Crewe]. But he just wasn’t ready for the game, and I couldn’t take a risk with him. It’s disappointing when you are missing your front two because that takes a lot of goals out of your team.”

Jackson had revealed that Stockley was to be sent to a specialist for his hip problem in midweek.

He added: “It’s a tricky situation with Jayden. The type of injury he’s got is not straightforward. We’re hoping to have him back before too long but it’s something we need to get right.

“The physios could tell you more about the injury, I don’t know the ins and outs of it. But in layman’s terms, it’s a tricky one that we have to monitor carefully and we’ll hopefully have him back within the next few games.”
