Lambeth announces ‘new vision’ for development from now until 2035
Lambeth has announced a ‘new vision’ for the development of the borough from now until 2035.
At a full council meeting on Wednesday, September 22, members voted to adopt the Lambeth Local Plan 2021.
The Plan provides a blueprint for delivering the council’s Borough Plan priorities of creating inclusive growth, reducing inequality and building strong and sustainable neighbourhoods, as well as tackling the climate crisis.
Councillors also agreed a new charging schedule for the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), which is paid by developers to the council as part of the planning process and is used to contribute towards essential infrastructure improvements across the borough.
What is the Lambeth Local Plan 2021?
The Lambeth Local Plan 2021 will replace the Lambeth Local Plan 2015 to provide an up-to-date planning policy basis to support the council’s goal of sustainable and inclusive growth in the borough.
This includes the delivery of new and affordable housing, economic development, design quality, place-shaping, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Adoption of the Local Plan comes after an independent examination where the Plan was found to be sound, subject to the ‘main modifications’ that were consulted on in February and March 2021.
The adopted Local Plan, Changes to the Policies Map document, the Adoption Statement and Sustainability Appraisal Adoption Statement have all been published online.
Physical copies will be available to view after October 1 at any Lambeth library during normal opening hours or at the Lambeth Civic Centre (by appointment, by emailing planningpolicy@lambeth.gov.uk).
A new Policies Map 2021 is currently being prepared and will be issued as soon as possible after adoption.
In the meantime, the Policies Map consists of the Policies Map 2015 plus the changes set out in the document ‘Changes to the Policies Map 2015 (September 2021)’.
Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Charging Schedule
Lambeth Council has formally approved a revised Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Charging Schedule.
The CIL is a charge which can be levied by local authorities on new development in their area.
Lambeth’s revised CIL Charging Schedule will replace the current CIL Charging Schedule that was adopted in 2014 and will take effect from January 1, next year.
Under the new charging schedule, Lambeth will be split into four charging zones rather than three under the previous CIL charging schedule.
Zone A will include Waterloo and Vauxhall Nine Elms; Zone B will remain as Kennington, Oval and Clapham; Brixton, Tulse Hill and Herne Hill will form Zone C and Streatham and West Norwood forms Zone D.
