Lee Bowyer provides transfer update + underlines importance of no Charlton Athletic outgoings

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Lee Bowyer has talked again about the importance of Charlton holding on to all of their current squad – as he still hopes for arrivals before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

The Addicks have made an offer for Bristol Rovers striker Jonson Clarke-Harris but there are fears that could be as a replacement for Lyle Taylor.

Taylor has been the subject of interest from Bristol City in this transfer window and Brentford – who pushed hard for a summer deal – also still thought to be in the frame for the 29-year-old.

Bowyer, when asked about a move for Clarke-Harris, said: “It’s unfair to talk about other players but I can tell you now that we haven’t made a million-pound bid for anyone.

“We’re in talks with people and we’re relying on help. That’s the be-all and end-all, we’re relying on people doing us favours.

“We are trying, we’re trying to get things over the line.

“We need to bring bodies through the door. We are two players down from when the window opened – we need to bring at least two to bring us even.

“We need to strengthen and bring bodies through the door because all the teams around us are strengthening and we’re not.

“It’s not even just me, the players want help. The players want bodies through the door as well.

“We need to add to the squad, not deplete it. We need to keep people like Lyle – he is massive for us.”

That is what they have stated for each of the January window for years and years.
We are working all day and night to bring in players and now stating we have made no multi-million bids for players.
Tomorrow the same same ” we have really worked so hard but unfortunately, we could not get deal over the line”!!!

We have heard it all before
All talk no action. This transfer window will close like all the others with s couple of team sheet fillers.

  • Well if that is the case Lee
Then ESI should pull their finger out and make it happen.
I don’t think we are going to be relegated but it
Distant possibility without strength in our ravaged squad.

Very disappointing, as fans we were expecting investment in the squad. In fact “marquee signings”. So what’s happening?

We end up with no one who owns club as RD come back we should be buying Toney whos a striker proven we need defender no one coming forget maddison if he wants to come would have signed by now the Liverpool guy wont come nor will Tottenham striker are the contracts still on RD wages new owns seem to not be willing to spend so if we went up to prem would be same tight money as RD

So why doesn’t ESI stop being a bunch of tight arses and put there money where there mouths are , and just like our new chairman Mat Southall was saying he was going to do like saying he is going do this and do that !!! so why don’t you just What you promised to do and get your finger out of your arse and just do it aye , ? because before you became our new chairman and you was acting like the big I’am and making promises to us charlton fans and saying you would keep us fans happy but the majority of us fans are not , so please just back Lee Bowyer our loyal manager !! and just stop bullshitting us fans and do something about it and before it’s all to late and when we are relegated again back to league one .😏

It’s beginning to look as if Charlton’s much vaunted new owners are a clone of Duchatelet. There’s more than a hint of desperation in Bowyer’s comments regarding the lack of transfer activity.I suspect all is not well at The Valley and the supporters are due to be disappointed in regard to money being invested in building a squad capable of mounting a realistic challenge to gain promotion. Mugged AGAIN.

  • Looks like we will be relegated. If no signings, how can we stop the freefall? The only help we might get is Derby being docked loads of points and getting relegated. These tired players are only going to struggle more as the season goes on. What about Morgan Ferrier from Tranmere, looks a lively player. Could get us out of a hole.

  • I’m not very happy bunny with what’s going on, when ESI took over the old guard at the club employed should have been sacked with fresh ideas coming in the player recruitment team needs revamping and people fans could look up to. The old guard I blame for sucking up to Roland dutatelet get free bees etc.
I think if no players come in the royal who brought us will fire Southall I heard whispers that dalman at Cardiff still in the background would love him replace Southall he’s a Charlton fan and lives local to the valley. I gave a list of around 20 players from league one to the conference we need bodies in now I want changes at the way we bring in players 1 player is just embarrassing

It seems disapointing that there have been no additions. There are plenty of players available as the ins including loanies. We need to strengthen the squad asap it’s not rocket science.
