An NHS charity has set up an appeal for online donations to help buy warm clothing for patients for when they leave hospital.
Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and the Trust Charity have set up a virtual Christmas appeal to support patients who are in University Hospital Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich.
Restrictions at hospitals due to the pandemic means donations of any material clothing donations cannot take place this year.
Online donations will go towards fleeces, jogging bottoms, hats as well as gloves for when they leave hospital.
Kate Hudson, Lead Dementia Nurse Specialist (pictured) said: “Particularly during this time of COVID it’s difficult for patients’ relatives to always bring them in warm clothing and we would like to make sure every patient leaves our hospital warm and cosy.
“We’re hoping to supply jackets, hats and gloves to ensure everyone going home in hospital transport is warm.
“We think it’s really important to maintain people’s dignity and to make sure that everyone in the colder weather feels comfortable.”

Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick has encouraged everyone in the country who can afford to do so to buy a newspaper, and told the Downing Street press briefing recently: “A free country needs a free press, and the newspapers of our country are under significant financial pressure”.
So if you have enjoyed reading this story, and if you can afford to do so, we would be so grateful if you can buy our newspaper or make a donation, which will allow us to continue to bring stories like this one to you both in print and online.
