BAC performance aims for the outrageous with queer look at ecology

Somewhere between a variety show and a biology essay, this new performance takes a queer look at life forms.

Thick & Tight will present Natural Behaviour, a collection of performed portraits of human and non-human life forms, at Battersea Arts Centre from June 3 to 7.

Natural Behaviour will explore queer ecology, exposing how the natural world is weaponised against marginalised people to create exclusionary binaries of ‘natural’ or ‘unnatural’ lives and behaviours.

The dance theatre company’s distinctive mixture of dance, satire, impersonation and poetry aims for the outrageous with a line up featuring a tyrannical leopard, post-apocalyptic cockroaches, two moths in moonlight, a lamenting songbird and a lesbian seagull.

Co-directors Daniel Hay-Gordon and El Perry are joined by a cast of dance artists, Annie Edwards, Azara Meghie, Luigi Nardone, Jahmarley Bachelor, and Corali Dance Company.

Natural Behaviour is designed by Tim Spooner, Pam Tait, Darren Evans and Nao Nagai.

For more than a decade, Thick & Tight have presented work at major UK venues including Royal Opera House, Barbican and Sadler’s Wells as well as LGBTQI+ nights and renowned arts and community spaces such as Duckie, Moth Club and Posh Club.
