Free BFI Film Festival tickets released with more than 60 screenings, ska DJ nights and more
The BFI has revealed a completely free programme featuring more than 60 screenings, workshops, talks and live music events, as part of its 68th London Film Festival (LFF).
The programme will be hosted at BFI Southbank and gallery@oxo, from October 10 to 20, with further free experiences available at venues across London outside of these dates.
Highlights this year include a collection of stunning short films from the most exciting new filmmakers, special preview screenings of Alfonso Cuaron’s new series, Disclaimer, at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, and a celebration of DreamWorks Animation turning 30 with talks from President of DreamWorks Animation Margie Cohn and three-time Academy Award nominated writer-director Chris Sanders.
For audiences looking to stay out late, follow the beat down to BFI Southbank bar for four DJ nights inspired by films in the festival programme. From DJ Juggy Jones’s retro-tastic set, The Face of 1966, a musical tribute to the swinging ’60s to compliment Sadie Frost’s new documentary about fashion icon Twiggy, to a celebration of Pauline Black: A 2-Tone Story with DJ Rhoda Dakar spinning a night of very best 80s British Ska revival and the Jamaican music that influenced it.
For young audiences and families there will be Orangutan-themed activities for ages eight years and above, inspired by Claude Barras’ new film Savages. The film tells the story of a girl and an Orangutan facing up to deforestation in Borneo.
There will also be dream travelogue collage workshops for children aged six years and above, inspired by the new documentary Blink, which tells the real-life story of a family who travelled the world to create lasting memories as their children began to lose their vision.
Kristy Matheson, BFI LFF director, said: “Our 2024 programme is bursting with ideas and events to entice film fans and the cinematically curious alike. With exhibitions, workshops, talks, screenings and club nights there’s so many ways to enjoy the LFF – for free!”
