Haven’t Stopped Dancing Yet: Club night for grown-ups turns 15

If you’re a parent who likes a night out but are afraid of bumping into your kids on the dance floor, this adult disco is for you.

Haven’t Stopped Dancing Yet (HSDY), the South London based club night for grown-ups, will celebrate 15 years of partying at Blackheath Halls in Lee Road, Blackheath on March 15.

Mum-of-two, Nikki Spencer, set up HSDY in her late 40s as she wanted to be able to go out dancing without feeling like she was gate-crashing one of her teenage daughters’ parties.

Her idea became reality when the first ever HSDY night came to life at the Trafalgar Tavern, in Park Row, Greenwich, in 2010.

The idea quickly took off and there are now regular sell out nights at Blackheath Halls, Beckenham Place Mansion, Islington Assembly Hall, and other venues across London.

HSDY has also held packed out parties at Boxpark Wembley, dance classes on the Grand Terrace at St Pancras International, a huge 70s night at Epsom Downs Racecourse and most recently partied in the park at the Crystal Palace Concert Bowl.

Ms Spencer said: “Most club nights are aimed at people in their 20s, but people don’t stop wanting to go out dancing when they hit their late 30s, 40s and 50s and beyond.”

“The popularity of HSDY goes to show this. Some partygoers bring their grown-up kids or vice versa. It is such a great night out and all ages love the music and the feelgood vibe.”

The 15th birthday party will feature DJ Dolly Mix playing feelgood 70s and 80s, soul, funk and disco classics and dancer Lady Boo, who will get everyone into the groove with flash mob style routines including Car Wash – complete with shiny rags.

This will be followed by Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance with Somebody, which the pop-up club night takes its name from, as well as a best outfit dance-off competition, free retro sweets, ice pops and more.

Future South London parties are already planned at The White Eagle Club in Balham on April 26, Beckenham Place Mansion on May 3 and back at Blackheath Halls on July 12.

Ms Spencer’s family has a history of cancer and 10 per cent of profits from HSDY nights go to Cancer Research UK.
