Legendary Brixton Queen of Lovers Rock set to release latest single for black pride
Lorna Gee, the legendary Queen of Lovers Rock – otherwise known as Sutara Gayle – has just announced her latest single.
Closet is set for release on digital platforms on August 23, with the video released on August 11.
Written on a rhythm track created by Mafia and Fluxy, Closet is a celebration of authenticity, encouraging listeners to embrace their true self.
The single will be premiered and performed at UK Black Pride in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, on the August 11, where there will be exclusive merchandise to celebrate it sold on the day.
Born and raised in Brixton, Closet is Ms Gayle’s first official single since 1996 and follows the success of her recent one woman theatre show, The Legends of Them at Hackney Showroom, for which she received an Offie Award for best performer in an Off West End production 2024.
Ms Gayle won BBC London Reggae artist of the year in 1985 and 1986, with her most well known tracks Gotta Find A Way and Three Weeks (mi giro).
Closet is the first single ahead of her greatest hits album which is expected to be released in the coming year with Mad Professor’s Ariwa Records, her longtime collaborators.
Other recent acting appearances include Netflix’s Supacell, Batman: Dark Knight and Mernier Chocolate Factory’s production, Baker’s Wife, which is currently on in the West End.
