Strictly Come Dancing: Nadiya Bychkova is a breath of fresh air amidst controversy

By Sarah Tetteh

With Strictly Come Dancing’s 20th anniversary fast approaching, all eyes are on the nation’s favourite family TV show as it marks its milestone.

Yet in the midst of celebration preparations, some controversy has been sparked surrounding some of the dancers on the hit BBC show.

Now, South London Press has caught up with fans’ favourite dancer Nadiya Bychkova, who made her first public appearance since her devastating split from Kai Widdrington.

Nadiya had a rather refreshing take on Strictly.

Despite her own personal struggles, Ukranian star Nadiya put her best foot forward to steal the show at the epic Harold and the Purple Crayon Premiere (out on August 2), and boy was she a picture of composure and professionalism.

Above all, fans noticed her first priority despite all the drama surrounding the show, is being a fantastic mum.

Nadiya made sure her little girl Mila, seven, was comfortable at the do, and gave her daughter hugs all the time. At one point she even halted her time on the red carpet to check her daughter was ok.

It’s a side to the star we rarely get to see –  stripped back from all the sparkles of the dancefloor –  Nadiya, who looked gorgeous in neutral colours wearing a chic and simple cream suit, was all about spending quality family time with her little girl at the star-studded event at the Vue cinema, Leicester Square.

It was clear to see Nadiya, 34, wanted to put the drama of the dancing competition behind her, as she said her fellow dancers are still very much gearing up for the new season.

Despite the shadow of various scandals, Strictly is still set to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The professional dancer couldn’t help but stand firm as she admitted that the roster of professionals were still raring to go.

She declared: “We’re ready.”

When asked how she was feeling, she admitted: “I’m doing great.

“We’re having a lovely morning. So glad everyone is enjoying the show!”

The poster couple of the show decided to split after battling problems whilst living and training together 24/7.

A source told The Sun no third party was involved, and pals said they simply “grew apart” after two “blissful” years together.

Meanwhile Strictly has faced a slew of scandals over recent months after Giovanni Pernice faced a misconduct probe. Several of his celebrity partners made complaints to the BBC about his ‘militant’ training methods.

Fellow professional Graziano Di Prima faced scandal after he was sacked by bosses for gross misconduct and admitted to kicking ex-partner Zara McDermott in rehearsals
