Culture vultures will love the new cultural venue at Catford Mews

A new cultural venue that includes a multi-screen cinema, a pop-up food market, a community room, a bar and cafe and a space for live music and comedy has opened.

Catford Mews, just off Rushey Green in the middle of Catford, is Lewisham’s newest entertainment centre, opened on September 25 with a performance from Grime artist Big Tobz.

Formerly a Poundland, Catford Mews was taken by developer Really Local Group and turned into a cultural centre as part of a plan to rejuvenate the area.

There are also future plans to integrate co-working areas and an exhibition space.

The council says affordability and inclusivity are the key principles of Catford Mews, with cinema tickets costing between £4.99 and £9.99 and memberships available for Catford locals.

Speaking at the official launch of Catford Mews, Mayor of Lewisham Damien Egan said: “Catford Mews is a fantastic example of what we can achieve when the community comes together.

“I want to thank everyone who has been involved in this fantastic project.

“Lewisham is creative, forward-thinking and the champion of small businesses.

“Our best years are ahead of us and Catford Mews is a shining example of how we can grow while keeping our independent shops and small businesses.”

The pop-up food market, cafe and bars will all serve food and drinks from
local businesses.

The market will serve vegan Scandi-inspired food by Duan’s Deli, a fresh take on Jamaican patties by Patty Man, popular Japanese dishes by FUSÉ and vegan doughnuts by Bears Dough.

Coffee will be available from independent café Compound Coffee, and the bar serves Brockley Brewery and Brixton-based Indigo Wines.
