‘Fiesta del Día del Migrante’: Latin American community leads grassroots celebration
South London’s Latin American community groups are joining forces to host a huge celebration of cultural diversity this December.
Fiesta del Día del Migrante, is a free event which will be held at 1 Opal Street, Kennington on December 14.
From traditional chocolatada for children to international food stalls as well as live music and dance performances, the celebration demonstrates how migrant communities enrich the capital’s cultural fabric.
Organiser Jose Miranda said: “We’re reclaiming our narrative through celebration, unity, and joy.
“In times when divisive voices try to dominate public discourse, our community chooses to amplify messages of love and inclusion.”
The event comes four days before International Migrants Day on December 18, first declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2000.
The initiative marks a day every year to reflect on the role of migrants in society, their positive contributions and the challenges they face in achieving their full potential and capabilities.
