Man arrested in connection with series of armed robberies

Detectives from the Met’s Flying Squad have arrested a man in connection with a series of armed robberies at bookmarkers.

The 51-year-old was arrested on Monday, on suspicion of five counts of robbery. He remains in custody at an east London police station.

His arrest is part of an investigation into a linked series of armed robberies where shop staff were threatened by a man with a firearm at bookmakers on five separate occasions.

These were at High Street, Sutton, on Monday, April 4, at Burnt Ash Road, Norwood Junction, on Wednesday, April 13 and again on April 18 and at High Street, Lee, on Saturday, April 23, and in Crayford Road, Crayford on Sunday, April 24.

On all occasions a man left with a quantity of cash, but no injuries were reported.
