Marcus Maddison’s Charlton career is over – as he joins Bolton Wanderers on loan

Charlton’s Marcus Maddison has joined Bolton Wanderers on loan for the remainder of the 2020-21 season.

The move essentially ends the 27-year-old’s Addicks career as he will be a free agent at the end of June.

Maddison was facing the prospect of being frozen out of the first-team picture by the Addicks and has instead opted to drop to League Two.

The playmaker was hardly swamped with options after coming out of contract this summer. He eventually penned a contract with Charlton on October 1. There was an option of a second year with the South Londoners if he impressed.

But Maddison has not featured in the last five League One matches.

He told Bolton’s official website: “As soon as I heard Bolton Wanderers were interested in me they immediately became my number one choice.

“Bolton are a big club and are in a position where they shouldn’t be. I am going to do my best to help get them back to where they belong.”
