Millwall boss Gary Rowett hails a “true team performance” as they dominate Reading in 2-0 win

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Millwall manager Gary Rowett felt his side dominated from start to finish in today’s 2-0 victory over Reading.

Second-half goals from Matt Smith and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson sealed victory for the Lions.

Millwall have lost once since November 2 and look like a side capable of muscling into the play-off positions.

Rowett said: “Reading have been in equally good form as we have since Mark [Bowen] has taken over. They might have even got one more point than us.

“They’ve got some really good individuals like Ejaria and Swift who can change a game with a little bit of quality. But we navigated the game really well.

“We wanted to start well. We just felt that we could make those good players run back to their own goal and have to defend constantly. That persistence, energy, that aggression and determination really opened the game up for us.

“We just kept going. We’ve had that before where we’ve played really well for 20-25-30 minutes in the first half where we’ve been really quick and intent – then struggled to maintain it. But today we were better second half than we were the first.

“We created an awful lot of chances. I think we had 22 shots on goal – eight on target. I don’t think Reading had a shot on target. It was a true team performance and a thoroughly deserved win.”
