Millwall boss Rowett: Leeds midfielder should have seen red for treading on Tom Bradshaw

Millwall manager Gary Rowett says that Leeds United’s Mateusz Klich was lucky to escape punishment for treading on Tom Bradshaw in Tuesday’s Championship clash at Elland Road.

The Lions saw a 2-0 lead evaporate as Marcelo Bielsa’s side hit back to pick up the three points and move to the top of the table.

And while Rowett had no arguments about the final outcome of a fierce encounter in Yorkshire, he felt his side were denied a definite penalty kick.

The South London Press also asked him about video of Klich stepping on a floored Bradshaw.

Rowett said: “It’s quite ironic that everyone was talking about how hard done by Leeds were with one or two decisions. But if you look at it then probably the major decision went against us.

“He has definitely trodden on our player. I’ve seen the footage after the game and it should be a red card.

“I’m not complaining about the outcome. They were better than us by far and it certainly doesn’t change the result.

“But it should be a red card and we should have had a penalty. I’ve seen them both again and my views haven’t changed.”

Boovarsson punched Hernandez and should’ve been off. Millwall’s penalty was never a penalty as the ball quite clearly went out of play seconds before the foul. I thought Rowett was quite honourable in defeat, up until this. Sour grapes on his part and Leeds were still on the worse end of the decisions, so it’s swings and roundabouts… Move on!

    • Agreed Millwall’s pen should not have been given, however Millwall should have had a clear penalty at the end for the pull on Matt Smith – didn’t see the so called Bodvarsson punch Hernandez (if it actually happened) however the video clearly shows a stamp on Bradshaw which should have led to a red card – that can not be denied

What is “sour grapes” about saying the opposition deserved to win? Rowett is just pointing out a couple of things Leeds quite clearly got away with, after all Leeds’ fans childish comments that everything went our way. I don’t think Leeds have ever deserved to even let in a goal let alone lose, according to their fans.

Have to say leeds were better than us – best I’ve seen this season – and fully deserved the win. Can’t understand the bleating afterwards. Wasn’t conclusively shown the ball was out of play prior to what was definitely a penalty. Bodvarson does appear to attempt a girly slap on Hernandez but Klich stamped on Bradshaw, both missed by referee, both possible sendings off and Smith was definitely fouled for what should have been another penalty. That is football and leeds did deserve to win so we move on. Rowett was gracious in defeat – leeds should try and be gracious in victory!

  • It’s time Jowett stopped nit picking and leave the leeds players alone it was the referee that was at fault his refereeing was shocking and made mistakes with both teams that’s who he should be having a go at. Leeds Won need to
get over it and move on to the next match unless he wants to lose that as well….

  • This was the worse Ref ever…in a league of mediocre referees that’s saying something but I agree with all comments so far both us and Leeds suffered from incompetent refereeing…but we like the other teams who played in the FA Cup suffered from the ELF Deciding to make us play Tuesday it could have been moved to Wednesday
