Millwall boss Rowett reacts to Portsmouth press claiming Mahlon Romeo is a target

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has reacted to the local Portmouth press linking them with a move for Mahlon Romeo.

The Lions defender did not make their matchday squad for today’s 2-1 victory over Blackpool.

The Pompey media have also reported that the League One outfit are hot on a Fratton Park return for Ben Thompson.

Asked about the claim that they have now set their sights on Romeo, Rowett replied: “At least it stops them talking about Thommo for a few articles! From the press speculation about a number of our players that Portsmouth are trying to get – that hasn’t actually correlated in any actual, real movement from Portsmouth.

“They can talk about it all they want. But unfortunately in this market you have to put an offer in to try and see if you can get a player. Rather than hoping the number of articles makes a player walk out for nothing. That doesn’t quite happen.”
