Millwall defender could have suffered even more serious damage in freak incident

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Neil Harris has supplied more detail on the freak incident which ruled Shaun Hutchinson out of Millwall’s New Year’s Day win at Ipswich Town – and admitted it could have been more serious.

The Lions centre-back suffered a deep cut when putting a bag of rubbish in his bin.

Hutchinson is unlikely to feature in tomorrow’s FA Cup game against Hull City at The Den.

“There was a broken bottle in the bag and as he swung it to put it in the bin it cut his leg at the top of his shin,” Harris told the South London Press on Thursday morning.

“It was a nasty injury. But he has been lucky in one respect as it could have caused even more serious damage – a lot more severe.

“Will we see him playing at the weekend? It’s unlikely. But for Blackburn there is every possibility.

“Until he sees a specialist and gets further information on just how deep it is then we won’t get a better timescale.”

Millwall boosted their central defensive options with the loan signing of Derby’s Alex Pearce on Friday.
