Millwall midfielder Ben Thompson: We’ve got to do better as a team – and Bialkowski has got to move on from mistake

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Ben Thompson reckons everyone in the Millwall squad can deliver more – with the all-action midfielder left frustrated by their Championship slump.

The Lions are winless in six matches in all competitions. A 2-1 defeat to QPR on Saturday was a first setback at The Den this season.

Bart Bialkowski’s mistake was punished by Nakhi Wells for the winner. Millwall have not won in the Championship since August 17.

Thompson said: “It’s gutting. At 1-1 we were strong and we looked threatening.

“Obviously the mistake happens – Bart will save us more times than he will cost us this season.

“He’s just got to take it on the chin and move on to the next one. He’s a great goalkeeper, everyone knows that.

“As a team we weren’t the best. We’ve got to do better – me included. We need to bounce back. We’ve had a couple of bad results now and need to push on.”

Millwall have not kept a clean sheet since their 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday last month.

“It hurts because we don’t come here to lose games,” said Thompson. “We need the points and it’s crucial to get them early in the season to set us up.

“We’ve got a great set of lads in there, the boys want it so much – they are such a caring group – and they give it everything every day in training and on a match day.

“The results haven’t been going our way and we need to fix something. Something needs to change – hopefully in the next few weeks we can get a few more points.”

Saturday looks a prime opportunity as the South Londoners head to a Huddersfield Town side who are bottom of the table.

“It’s massive,” said Thompson. “We need to pick up our away form.

“We can go to Huddersfield and get points. They aren’t doing so great at the moment. We need to bounce back massively but have got a great set of lads to do so.”

Well at last some leadership and it comes from the youngest player in the squad. Its a bit like the Eco climate Warriors – the pearls of wisdom about the future are coming from the youngsters!!
Is Ben Thompson the Millwall equivalent of Greta Thunberg…………said in the nicest way possible.
Its now nearly October and the manager still plainly does not know his best side. We need to buck up on AND OFF the pitch – team selection and tactics are dire.
From what I saw at the weekend MFC V Ipswich and Huddersfield V West Brom – Huddersfield who are really struggling will have too much for us
