Millwall midfielder has scan on ankle – with boss admitting there looks to be “damage”
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Millwall midfielder Ben Thompson is set to have a scan on the ankle injury he suffered in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Derby County.
The 24-year-old was a second half substitute at Pride Park but had to be replaced by Matt Smith in the 88th minute after blocking a cross by Jayden Bogle.
Initially it was thought that the Lions man had just rolled his ankle.
But Millwall manager Gary Rowett told the South London Press this morning: “It has swollen up a little bit. He came in for treatment yesterday and it didn’t look as good as it did straight after the game.
“I think he went for a scan. We think there is some sort of damage there but we’re not sure to what extent.
“The lad’s crossed it, it’s hit Thommo’s ankle and it’s almost rocked his ankle and turned it. It was a disappointing injury but a completely unavoidable one.
“Ankle injuries are such that if it’s a mild strain you can strap it up and get on with it. If it’s anything more than that then they can be really, really tough ones to heal.
“We’ll know a little bit more tomorrow when we come in [for training].”
