New Covid test centre opens in Croydon

By Tara O’Connor, local democracy reporter

A new coronavirus test centre has opened in Croydon.

The walk-through centre at the Croydon Arena Car Park is part of a drive to improve access to Covid-19 testing and opened today (Friday, January 29).

It is only open to those with coronavirus symptoms and a slot must be booked first at nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119.

People attending are asked not to travel to the centre by car or taxi and should wear a face covering while there and travelling to and from the test.

There are now more than 800 coronavirus testing sites across the UK.

It will offer self-administered tests and anyone testing position should be contacted by NHS Test and Trace to identify anyone they have been in close contact with.

Baroness Dido Harding, interim chair of the National Institute for Health Protection, said: “Walk-through sites offer communities better access to coronavirus testing, so everyone with symptoms can get a test.

“This new site is part of our ongoing work to expand our testing network across the UK which now has the capacity to process more than 700,000 tests a day.”
