New dad Ben Thompson shows his desire to play for Millwall

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Gary Rowett reckons Ben Thompson once again showed his burning desire to play for Millwall – after the midfielder made a late dash to feature in the 1-0 win at Swansea just a day after becoming a dad.

The midfielder’s partner gave birth at 5am on Friday. But the Lions academy product was available to start the victory in South Wales.

Millwall were without Jayson Molumby, who had picked up a knock on international duty with the Republic of Ireland U21s.

The on-loan Brighton midfielder could be back for Tuesday’s home game against Wigan.

Millwall manager Rowett said:”He [Molumby] has got a chance…that’s why I put Billy [Mitchell] on the bench, he’s fit and has been playing well for the U23s. I wouldn’t have hesitated in starting him if Thommo hadn’t have made it.

“Thommo made it, coming over on the train – which shows how much desire he has to play for Millwall.”

Shane Ferguson looks set to miss out in midweek as Millwall look to make it three Championship wins on the bounce.

“Fergie’s looks a little more serious,” said Rowett. “Maybe cartilage damage, we’re not sure until we check it.”
