New round of arts and fitness projects for Grenfell community unveiled

A total of 40 community projects ranging from fitness training and arts and crafts to child play and development sessions are being launched in north Kensington.

The schemes, which include boxing classes, creative workshops and a social support group, are being covered by the £1.2 million Grenfell Projects Fund (GPF).

The GPF is part of Kensington and Chelsea council’s Grenfell Recovery Strategy and projects were selected with the guidance of a resident-led panel and scoring and feedback from more than 1,400 local residents.

Recipients of money from Grenfell Projects Fund 2 all contribute towards north Kensington’s community-led recovery following the Grenfell tragedy.

The fund was introduced as part of the council’s five-year Grenfell Recovery Strategy.

Residents can meet those behind the various projects and learn more about them on Tuesday, July 26, from 6.30-8pm at Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre.

Councillor Sof McVeigh, the council’s lead member for communities, said: “We’re incredibly pleased that so many amazing community projects are benefiting from the second round of the Grenfell Projects Fund, and we can’t wait to see local people making the most of the services on offer under the programme.”

You can also see a video from the North Kensington Community Festival, which was put on by Youth Action Alliance with the support of the Grenfell Projects Fund, on the Council’s YouTube channel.
