New supermarket to be built in Croydon creating around forty new jobs

By Tara O’Connor, local democracy reporter

Construction is underway on a new Lidl store just off Purley Way.

The new supermarket will be built in part of the former Fabb Sofas building in Trojan Way.

At 1,275 square metres it will include a bakery and is expected to create about 40 new jobs.

The work is being carried out by construction firm 7Formation and it is expected to be open this summer.

The new store is set to be open from 7am-11pm Monday to Saturdays and from 10am-6pm on Sundays.

Lidl GB’s regional head of property, Henry Neel, said: “There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and it’s great that we are now in a position to start the fit out works.

“We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we enter this next phase of the development.”

The new store was part of a joint planning application with Next Home which already runs the adjoining shop and wanted to expand this store.

Next was contacted for confirmation that this is still the plan.
