Chandra’s helping hand for start-ups has not gone unnoticed

A business support manager who helps start-up enterprises get off the ground has received an award in recognition of his work.

Chandra Sharma received a prestigious award from the ‘Above and Beyond Bromley Business Awards #ABBBAS at a glitzy ceremony attended by more than 300 local business owners.

Chandra won the award for his work in the Business Start-Up team based in Bromley Central Library, where he has helped countless local people to hone their entrepreneurial skills and get their businesses up and running.

The celebrations took place at Oakfield House, Bromley Common, where he received the #ABBBAS Community Hero award for 2024, cheered on by colleagues from the Start-Up team.

Chandra said: “Thank you all for your kind words, it means a lot to me. It was good to show the wider audience the amazing work that we do supporting businesses through Start Up Bromley.

“This would not be possible without the faith that GLL have put into this project and the other start-ups. I am deeply honoured and grateful to have this role and I thank you all for your kind support.”

Libraries in Bromley, Greenwich and Wandsworth and their Business Start-Up services are run by charitable social enterprise GLL under the ‘Better’ brand. Supporting the wellbeing of local communities is an important part of the organisation’s ethos.

Rebecca Gediking, GLL’s head of libraries, said: “Huge congratulations Chandra. This was a very special award to win and the crowd went wild! We are all very proud of you.”
