Coronation Street star visits primary school to mark kindness campaign
A Coronation Street actor delighted pupils at a primary school this morning with a special visit to raise awareness around a children’s charity campaign.
Chris Harper – who has featured in the popular television soap since 2016 – made the trip to Dulwich Wood Primary School in Bowen Drive, Sydenham Hill, ahead of NSPCC’s Kindness Challenge.
The challenge sees schools and nurseries up and down the country spread kindness in their communities. Pupils pick up to nine kind acts using an NSPCC worksheet, which they attempt to complete throughout the first week of October.
Children saw Mr Harper deliver an assembly about the NSPCC, Childline, and the Kindness Challenge, which he followed up with a worksheet session and Q&A for selected year groups.
He said: “It’s been great to see the children really thinking about different acts of kindness today – not just holding the door open for someone but also what it means to have consideration and respect for someone, to really know what someone else needs, and to have their empathy goggles on.”
Known for his support of child sexual abuse charities, Mr Harper featured in a high profile grooming and exploitation storyline in Coronation Street as character Nathan Curtis.
Katie Fudge, NSPCC Fundraising Manager, said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to both everyone at Dulwich Wood Primary and Chris for taking part in the NSPCC’s Kindness Challenge.
“But it’s not too late for schools to sign up! To find out more, visit the NSPCC website or search ‘NSPCC Kindness Challenge’ online.”
