Court appearance today for man accused of sex assaults in Croydon

A man has been charged with two counts of sexual assault following an alleged broad daylight attack in Croydon on Monday morning.

Biniam Abbas, 22, of High Street, Croydon, was charged this morning with two counts of sexual assault and is due to appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court.

The charges relate to two separate incidents of sexual assault in Purley Way, the A23, on February 28 and on Monday, where woman and girls were assaulted.

On Monday, two teenage girls were walking along the busy main road shortly after 9am when a man appeared and reportedly grabbed one of the girls from behind. He then pulled the girl to the floor and assaulted her, it is alleged.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called at around 9.17am on Monday, where a third party report was made of an allegation of sexual assault at Purley Way.

“The victims, two teenaged girls, were walking on Purley Way when a man grabbed one of them from behind and pulled her to the floor assaulting her.

“That same evening, officers from the Met’s South Area Command arrested a man on suspicion of sexual assault.”
