Egg hunt is perfect theme for nature club’s Easter gathering
An egg hunt was the seasonally-appropriate highlight for youngsters at Wimbledon Common Nature Club, who met on Sunday for their monthly activities day.
The morning at the Wimbledon Common information centre started with a discussion on the importance of birds, and how they help to distribute seeds.
The young club members then went out on to Wimbledon Common with their families for an egg hunt with identification charts to spot pictures of eggs which had been set out in the hedgerows.
Afterwards they went back to the Information Centre to paint clay eggs and to make nests. And at the end of the session they all enjoyed eating chocolate eggs.

Club leader Auriel Glanville said: “The children had a lovely morning identifying eggs and then had great fun painting their clay eggs and making nests.”
The next club session will be themed on ‘Pond Dipping’ which will be all about discovering the creatures under the water, on Sunday, May 4. Meet at the Information Centre 10am to 12 noon (newcomers 9.45am to register).
It is aimed at 6-14 year olds and is free, though donations are always welcome. For more information, please phone 07837 910072 or email: auriel.glanville@btinternet.
