Fairground ride malfunction which injured four to be investigated by HSE
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is leading an investigation sparked after four people were injured when a fairground ride malfunctioned in Lambeth.
The incident happened during the Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park at around 6.20pm on June 8.
The council said emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. Four people were taken to hospital.
An 11-year-old girl from South-east London and a man in his 50s were both injured in the incident.
The Met said a man and a woman, both in their 40s, were also treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Last month a Met spokesman said the force had launched an investigation into the incident, alongside the HSE.
The Met officially signed the case over to be led by the HSE on July 16.
In a statement, HSE inspector Stacey Gamwell said: “We will continue to thoroughly investigate what happened and determine whether there were any breaches of health and safety law at the time of this incident.
“Once we have finished our investigation, a decision will then be made on whether formal enforcement is required in line with our enforcement policy. We remain in contact with those affected by the ride’s malfunction and will keep them updated throughout our investigation.”
At the time, a Lambeth council spokesman said the local authority was “shocked and saddened” by the incident.
A spokesman said: “The Lambeth Country Show was celebrated by big crowds over the weekend with a fun, united and inclusive vibe throughout.
“We are deeply saddened by the fairground incident on Saturday. It was really shocking and our thoughts are with those who were injured, and their families.”
