Flat destroyed after fire breaks out in 18-storey block

A ground floor flat was completely destroyed by a fire that broke out in an 18-storey block last night.

Four fire engines and about 20 firefighters responded to the blaze in New Kent Road, Southwark. 

A four-roomed ground floor flat was destroyed by the fire. There are no reports of any injuries, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.

The LFB received the first of 12 calls reporting the fire at around 11pm.

Crews from Old Kent Road, Dowgate, Lambeth and Peckham fire stations brought the incident under control by around midnight.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the LFB’s Investigation Team.
