Four treated by ambulance crews after house fire
Four people were treated by ambulance crews at the scene of a house fire on Saturday.
Four fire engines and about 25 firefighters were called to the blaze at an end of terraced house in Bannister Close, West Norwood just after midnight.
Part of the ground floor and a small part of the garden area including climbing ivy from ground floor to roof level were damaged by the flames.
Four people were treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service (LAS) crews and were all discharged.
Fire crews from West Norwood, Brixton and Clapham Fire Stations brought the blaze under control by around 2.30am.
The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by an unattended candle, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.
A spokeswoman said: “Candles are one of the most common causes of fire. It’s really important that you never leave a candle unattended and keep them away from anything else that can easily catch alight.
“Consider using battery-powered, flameless LED candles instead, which are safe even if you fall asleep.
“If you do choose to use traditional candles ensure you place them in a heat-resistant holder, on a stable surface where they won’t be knocked over and away from materials that could catch fire. Never leave them unattended around your home, take particular care with children and pets and blow them out properly before you go to bed.”
