Happy ending for trapped fox cub reunited with family after rescue

A trapped fox cub has been reunited with its family after being rescued by an animal charity.

The cub was found by a member of the public stuck between a fence and garden wall in Hafer Road, Clapham Junction.

Its mum had been seen dropping food down the gap for the cub which could be heard crying out.

After the home-owner contacted the RSPCA for help, animal rescue officer Eve Mannings arrived at the scene and managed to safely release the animal from the tight spot.

She said: “It was really important we got the cub out as soon as possible.

“I was able to get the fox out using a grasper, thankfully he didn’t struggle too much.

“Once he was out I gave him a quick check over and he looked healthy despite his ordeal – he was a good weight which may have been why he was so tightly stuck in the first place!”

Ms Mannings was able to locate the cub’s den on the other side of the wall – as soon as the cub was released, he ran straight back in.

She said: “It’s always lovely to complete a rescue with a happy ending.

“We’re so grateful to the person who found the cub as they could have been stuck there for a long time. It’s a great example of how people can help wildlife.

“Happily he’s now back where he belongs with his family and with no harm done.”

Generally, it is best that members of the public don’t handle or transport fox cubs as they can become aggressive when stressed or injured, the RSPCA said.

If anyone finds a fox cub that is injured, sick or in immediate danger or has their eyes closed then call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999. There is more information about fox cubs on the RSPCA website.
