Historic Brockwell Hall transformed by £7.7m makeover

One of Lambeth’s most historic landmarks has been restored to its former glory after major repairs.

Brockwell Hall in the heart of Brockwell Park has undergone a £7.7million restoration programme, breathing new life into the grade II listed building.

The late Georgian Country House takes its name from John Blades – a prominent glassmaker in the early 19th century who commissioned the construction of Brockwell Hall between 1811 and 1813.

Following the works, Brockwell Hall will reopen with a multi-purpose exhibition space in the main hall, a volunteer and learning space for residents, a cafe and events space in the restored stable yard, accommodating up to 160 people.

The project has also seen wider improvements across Brockwell Park including dozens of new trees, wildflower beds, a new wildlife pond, a new zipwire and new drainage systems to reduce flooding.

Cllr Rezina Chowdhury, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Lambeth and Clean Air said: “The restoration of Brockwell Hall marks a proud moment for Lambeth.

“This project not only preserves a beautiful historic landmark but also breathes new life into Brockwell Park for future generations.”

Improvements have been funded by Lambeth council alongside £3.9 million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and support from the Brockwell Park Community Partners.

Stuart McLeod, Director of England – London and South at The National Lottery Heritage Fund, said: “It’s fantastic to see Brockwell Hall reopening after its transformational restoration project.

“At the Heritage Fund, we believe that heritage has the power to transform communities and this project is a great example of this, offering an important green space in Lambeth and somewhere where people can connect with the heritage on their doorsteps.”
