Hotel staff help 60 people escape after heavy smoke fills building
Hotel staff helped 60 people evacuate from a hotel before firefighters arrived yesterday afternoon, after a fire filled the building with smoke.
Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters tackled a small fire at a hotel in Waterloo Road, Waterloo.
Part of a cupboard on the first floor was damaged in the blaze, causing heavy smoke to spread throughout the building.
There were no reports of any injuries.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called at around 12.30pm and the fire was under control by around 2pm.
Fire crews from Dowgate, Lambeth, Whitechapel, Soho, Shadwell and Clapham fire stations attended the scene.
A spokesman from the LFB said: “The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
