Man, 21, charged after horror stabbing on busy Croydon bus

A 21-year-old man has been charged after a victim was stabbed on a bus in front of passengers in a “violent attack” last month.

Damian Howes, of Haldane Road, Bexley, was charged with Grievous Bodily Harm and possession of an offensive weapon, at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

He was arrested in connection with the incident on Friday. 

The charge comes after a man in his 50s was attacked on a Route 64 bus in Croydon on June 4.

The victim had confronted the suspect for having his feet on the seats and during a brief struggle was stabbed a number of times in the leg. 

The injured man went  to hospital with knife injuries and police were called.

Detective Inspector Jonathan Potter, of the Met’s Roads and Transport Command, said: “This was a violent attack on a busy London bus and I am sure that there are witnesses to the incident who have not yet come forward. I urge those people to get in touch without delay.

“Alongside our partners, we are working hard to reduce violent crime and to educate people about the serious consequences attached to knife crime.

“Some may mistakenly believe that they will be respected if they carry a knife, but the reality is that in any conflict, the presence of a knife will place everyone, including the knife carrier, in danger.”

Officers are still asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information to call them on 101 and quote reference 923/04June24.
