Man convicted in ‘devastating’ murder case after extradition from Spain

A third man has been convicted in a murder case after he was extradited from Spain.

Oliver Barker-Perez, 24, of Vera Road, Fulham, fled the country after the fatal stabbing of 22-year-old Kai Davis on August 21, 2021.

An extradition warrant was put out for his arrest and he was detained by Spanish authorities. He was charged with murder after he was extradited back to the UK on November 11 last year.

Previously Ben Myles, 24, of North End Road, West Kensington, was convicted of the murder of Mr Davis and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 26 years at Kingston Crown Court on October 19, 2022.

Joseph Barker, 23, of Clifton Gardens, Uxbridge, was also charged and found guilty of manslaughter. He was jailed for 11 years at the same hearing.

On the night of the murder, Mr Davis had been out in Epsom with a friend. On their way home they decided to visit the Pryzm nightclub in Kingston.

Barker and Myles had spent the night inside the club and came out at around 3.15am. Police believe they spotted Mr Davis and his friend, and Barker made a plan to attack him.

Myles and Barker did not carry knives into the venue and secured them after they left, the court heard.

Both were seen to place hooded jumpers belonging to two others over their own clothes placing the hoods up, in an effort to conceal their faces from view.

They then approached Mr Davis and Myles stabbed him in the chest. Mr Davis tried to run from the scene, chased by Barker, but collapsed just minutes later outside the Premier Inn in Wheatfield Street.

He managed to get up and walked a short distance before falling again outside the Travel Lodge.

Officers found him after they were called to reports of a disturbance in Clarence Street at 3.45am. Mr Davis was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service where he was later pronounced dead.

A post-mortem examination found the cause of death to have been a stab wound to the chest.

Detective Inspector Mike Nolan said: “Although, Oliver Barker-Perez did not inflict the fatal blow, he was well aware that his friend intended to cause serious harm to Mr Davis.

“This investigation has taken two years and I am glad that all the people involved in this fatal attack have now been brought to justice.

“The murder of Kai Davis is another example of the mindless act of knife crime in London, that leaves a trail of devastation for the victim’s family and friends.”

Barker-Perez will be sentenced on October 2.
